ARD Process
What is an ARD?
The letters stand for Admission, Review, & Dismissal committee. This is the name of the committee responsible for making the educational decisions for a student and writing the Individualized Education Plan (IEP). The parents, or adult students, as well as school staff are members of the ARD committee.
What should I expect to happen in an ARD meeting?
- You should be invited to an annual ARD meeting each year, and more often if needed. It is best to attend in person, though you may participate by phone.
-
You should receive an invitation to your child’s ARD meeting at least 5 calendar days in advance of the meeting date.
-
You should be asked to participate in the development of IEP goals and objectives as well as instructional accommodations.
-
You should receive a draft of the IEP from your child’s case manager at least 5 calendar days before the ARD meeting takes place.
-
At the ARD meeting, you should be asked about your future plans for your child.
-
At the ARD meeting, you should be able to review any data collected about your child.
-
At the ARD meeting, you should receive a copy of your Procedural Safeguards.
-
After the ARD meeting you should receive a signed final copy of the IEP and a Prior Written Notice summarizing the meeting. You may receive these documents in person, by mail or through electronic document sharing.
