Hutto CTE Offers Real World Training
The Automotive Technology program at Hutto High School provides students the opportunity to learn and apply skills in the automotive industry. Students begin as sophomores in the Automotive Basics course learning automotive systems such as suspension and steering, maintenance brakes, electrical/electronics, HVAC, engine performance and repair. Students then move into Automotive Technology I where they begin to service and repair those systems as well as moving into transmissions and vehicle diagnosis. In Automotive Technology II, students apply their skills by moving into more advanced diagnosis and repair.
Students can receive high school credit for serving as interns at local automotive businesses, and we even have a student who is partnered with Hutto ISD Transportation. Students who graduate from the program can immediately begin a career or pursue further education at a technical college. They are able to join the Hutto Automotive Skills Students organization and compete against other schools in SkillsUSA. Last year, these students captured five of the top ten places in a state contest including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
