Drew McConnaughhay Named River Horse Academy Principal

Hutto ISD is proud to announce Mr. Drew McConnaughhay as the principal of River Horse Academy for the upcoming 2020-21 school year. He replaces Dr. LaKesha Whitfield, who will be the district's first principal of the new Ninth Grade Center, scheduled to open the fall of 2021.

Mr. McConnaughhay will begin his 8th year with Hutto ISD this August. In his time at Hutto, he has served as an assistant principal at both Hutto High School and Farley Middle School.  Before moving to administration, Mr. McConnaughhay taught English I at the high school and was the head basketball coach for the 2015 District Champion Lady Hippos.  Mr. McConnaughhay joined Hippo Nation in 2013, moving his family from Copperas Cove, TX, where he taught Professional Communication and coached girls basketball and track.

Prior to working in education, Mr. McConnaughhay served in the United States Coast Guard as both a search & rescue boat crewman and a Federal Boarding Officer.  This choice of service was inspired by traveling the world with his father, Chaplain Don McConnaughhay, U.S. Army (Retired), through seven different states and two different countries. Mr. McConnaughhay was also able to serve during this time through mission work in Nairobi, Kenya.

Mr. McConnaughhay obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from Texas Tech University and his Master’s in Educational Leadership & Instruction through UT-Arlington.

Mr. McConnaughhay is married to Angelice McConnaughhay, who is a registrar at Hutto High School.  They are proud parents of Kade and Kaylianne, who are both students in Hutto ISD.  During his leisure time, Mr. McConnaughhay enjoys spending time with family, camping, and bowhunting in Texas and Arkansas.  Mr. McConnaughhay and his family are proud to live in Texas and consider themselves blessed to be a part of Hippo Nation!

“I consider myself very blessed to have the privilege of serving my community and Hutto ISD as the new Principal of RHA & DAEP," said Mr. McConnaughhay. "I firmly believe that my purpose on this earth is to serve the betterment of my community and its people, and am proud to serve this purpose by inspiring RHA and DAEP students to embrace excellence in learning, life, character, and career!”
