Dr. LaKesha Whitfield Named Principal of HHS Ninth Grade Center

Hutto ISD is proud to announce Dr. LaKesha Whitfield as the principal of Hutto High School's new Ninth Grade Center, which is scheduled to open the fall of 2021.

"This job means I have been awarded a unique opportunity to live out my life's purpose," said Dr. Whitfield.  "Through my life's experiences as a student, as a mother, and as an educator, I have discovered my life's purpose, my duty, is to use the gifts I have been given to change lives. Being announced as the principal of the Hutto High School Ninth Grade Center gives me a platform to create and provide an atmosphere of learning for all with the goal of changing lives and creating new legacies. This assignment is my love, my passion, and what I was created to do!"

Dr. Whitfield has been with Hutto ISD for seven years, most recently as the principal of River Horse Academy. Prior to that, she served as Hutto High School's first associate principal.  She has also served as an instructional coach and an assistant principal in Hutto ISD. During the 2014-2015 school year, she was named Employee of the Year for Hutto High School and for Hutto ISD. Before joining Hutto ISD, she was a mathematics teacher at Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville ISD for nine years, where she served in various capacities on numerous campus and district level committees.

"Dr. Whitfield has done phenomenal work as the principal at River Horse Academy," said Hutto ISD Superintendent Dr. Celina Estrada Thomas. "The teaching and learning environment that she created far exceeded our expectations for the transformation that was needed for the students. We look forward to what she will design for the Ninth Grade Center!"
Dr. Whitfield will serve in a dual role as principal of both RHA and the Ninth Grade Center for an undetermined time as the construction of the new campus continues. She is expected to officially occupy the Ninth Grade Center building in January 2021 and spend the spring planning and hiring for the opening in the fall of 2021.
