Jonathan Smith Named Principal of Hutto High School

The Hutto ISD Board of Trustees approved Mr. Jonathan Smith as new principal of Hutto High School at its May 27 meeting. He will begin his new role as campus principal July 1.

Smith replaces Roy Christian, who recently accepted the position of Hutto ISD’s DAEP Principal after seven years as principal of Hutto High School.

Smith has served as the principal of Deerpark Middle School in Round Rock ISD since 2016.  He previously supported Austin ISD as an academic dean and assistant principal for three years.

"Hutto has an amazing legacy of community first,” said Smith.  “I look forward to building and sustaining relationships within our campus and community for the betterment of all students. No matter your race, socioeconomic status, religion, orientation, etc., in our town we are all Hippos."

Superintendent Dr. Celina Estrada Thomas said, “We are excited to welcome Mr. Jonathan Smith to Hutto ISD. He brings a wealth of instructional leadership experience from the middle and high school levels. A natural at connecting with students and staff, we look forward to seeing him establish relationships with the Hutto community and take the senior high school to new heights.”

Smith is a graduate of Hampton University with an undergraduate degree in chemistry.  He received his Master of Educational Leadership from Concordia University. He has worked in education for 15 years, including seven years of experience in the classroom as a teacher and instructional coach.

"As an instructional leader, I look forward to collaborating with our outstanding faculty to ensure that all of our students are prepared for success in a global economy," said Mr. Smith.
Smith and his wife, Kristy, have six-year-old twins, Gabriel and Alana. He is a “huge Dallas Cowboys fan” and loves grilling, relaxing at the lake/beach, and spending time with his family.

"We are excited to welcome an experienced principal with a strong track record of success in terms of student achievement,” said Dr. Robert Sormani, Associate Superintendent of Instruction and Innovation. “He comes with both energy and a passion for education."
