Carrie Abrams Named New Principal of HNES
Hutto ISD has named Carrie Abrams as the new principal of Howard Norman Elementary for the 2019-20 school year. Abrams comes to Hippo Nation after 16 years in Del Valle ISD, including her most recent role as principal of Popham Elementary.
Mrs. Abrams began her career in education over 17 years ago as a fifth grade teacher. Since then she has worked as a campus testing coordinator and has served as an elementary school administrator for the past 12 years.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Abrams has chaired a variety of committees and has served as the campus 504 and LPAC administrator. She has lead professional development opportunities on topics of classroom management, formative assessment, guided reading, and writing across the curriculum. Most recently, she worked to create strategies that were vertically aligned while principal at Popham Elementary.
Mrs. Abrams holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Texas Tech University and a master’s degree in education and a principalship certification from Texas State University.
As a school leader, Mrs. Abrams said she believes in strong systems of communication and collaboration. She understands the importance of maintaining a focus on student academics and social-emotional learning. She believes decision-making starts with these components in mind and guides the work throughout the school year. Mrs. Abrams is passionate about providing students with an education that is relevant to their individual learning styles, and she said she can’t wait to get started sharing this passion with the parents, students, and staff as the new Howard Norman Elementary principal!
Outside of work, Mrs. Abrams enjoys spending time with her husband and their two-year-old daughter. They frequently search out activities that they can do outside or listening to live music. Most weekends are dedicated to finding new breakfast taco locations and being with friends and family.
