The Veterans’ Hill inaugural Ballet Folklorico performed on May 4th for the annual “cinco de mayo” celebration. Twenty four students performed four regional Mexican dances. The first was La Raspa a dance from Veracruz, Jarabe Mixteco from Oaxaca, and La Tupidita a wonderful dance from Chihuahua. The celebration closed with Jarabe Tapatio often known as the national dance of Mexico. The group consists of 24 third through fifth grade students that practiced one hour a week under the direction of Sandra Garza, Susan Olivares, and Rachel Montemayor. The VHE Ballet Folklorico Club is excited to continue celebrating Mexican-American culture next school year!
