Hutto ISD Receives District of Distinction Award from Texas Art Education Association
Hutto ISD Wins Inaugural TAEA District of Distinction Award
Hutto ISD has received a District of Distinction Award from the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA), placing it among a select group of 20 winners to receive the inaugural award. The districts received the honor for providing a well-rounded education that advocates and integrates visual arts curriculum to inspire creativity and reach all different learners. Only the top 2 percent of districts in the state earned the honor this year.
TAEA is the leading advocate for the visual arts in the state. The organization has previously honored outstanding TAEA members for work in their classrooms and districts. This is the first year that TAEA is honoring districts that meet rigorous criteria as evidenced from data.
For the 2019 award, more than 1,000 districts were eligible to apply. Each district submitted documentation that they had met the rubric over the 2018-2019 school year. Only 20 districts met the high standard and received the outstanding honor indicating they are in the top 2 percent of districts in the state.
“Our visual arts teachers are truly amazing! We are extremely proud of their accomplishments and this inaugural Award of Distinction in Texas,” said Hutto ISD Superintendent Dr. Celina Estrada Thomas. “It is an honor to have this caliber of talent and dedication in our visual arts teachers, and our students are fortunate to have them as
their teachers. They will inspire creativity and foster talent that will last a lifetime!”
“The Hutto ISD Visual Arts Program has seen tremendous growth over the last 10 plus years, and we could not be more thrilled about the talent and creativity pouring out of our students,” said Amber Kingsley, Hutto ISD Secondary Art Liaison. “At Hutto ISD, our teachers strive to create a nurturing and creative environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves in a variety of media. We are dedicated to growing our program and offering as many opportunities for the creative spirit as possible. We look forward to meeting the rigorous goals of a TAEA District of Distinction for years to come.”
The winning districts will be honored at the TAEA Awards ceremony as part of the TAEA Conference on Friday, November 15, 2019. The event will take place at Moody Gardens Convention Center in Galveston, TX.
“Hutto ISD has set the standard for visual arts advocacy, integrated visual arts curriculum and creativity,” said Dr. Michaelann Kelley, Chair of the Administration and Supervision Division of TAEA. “This is a high honor. The award is a testament to the skill, perseverance, and vision for a well-rounded education for this winning school district.”
