Dr. LaKesha Whitfield Takes Over Leadership of Riverhorse Academy
The Hutto ISD Board of Trustees approved Dr. LaKesha Whitfield as new principal of Riverhorse Academy/DAEP during its June meeting. She began her new role as campus principal July 1. She replaced Alexis Campbell, who recently was named the principal of Ray Elementary.
“I am honored to serve as the next principal of Riverhorse Academy/DAEP,” said Dr. Whitfield. “I believe my purpose in life is to positively impact all whom I encounter, so I am excited for the opportunity to work with the RHA/DAEP community.”
Dr. Whitfield will begin her seventh year with Hutto ISD, having served as an instructional coach, an assistant principal and, most recently, associate principal, all at Hutto High School. Dr. Whitfield was the first associate principal of HHS. During the 2014-2015 school year, she was named Employee of the Year for Hutto High School and for Hutto ISD. Before joining Hutto ISD, she was a mathematics teacher at Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville ISD for nine years, where she served in various capacities on numerous campus and district level committees. She also served as a mentor to many of her colleagues.
Dr. Whitfield obtained her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree, both in mathematics, from the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her Doctor of Education in Leadership and Educational Administration from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and obtained her principal certification from Region XIII.
When Dr. Whitfield is not at work, she serves in her church and in the community. She attends the Abundant Life Community Church in Pflugerville. There she serves as a leader, teaches Sunday School, is a Nu LIFE Team member, and is member of the D.I.V.A. Women’s Ministry. In the community, she volunteers with an organization designed to empower young women, Groomed for Greatness, as well as an organization focusing on mentorship, and career and educational goals for female high school students, G.L.E.A.M. Academy.
Dr. Whitfield considers herself extremely blessed to be the proud mother of Byshup Rhodes. Byshup is a 2015 graduate of Hutto High School and a 2019 graduate of Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
