Weather Monitoring Rain This Week
Rain is expected in our area beginning tonight and continuing through the weekend. At this time, all Hutto ISD schools and activities are operating on a normal schedule. Please plan for regular school days the remainder of the week.
Our team is monitoring conditions and staying in contact with our local emergency management partners about the area roadways. If any adjustments are needed, we'll make them quickly and let you know through ParentSquare (text, email, and app notification), the MyRide K-12 app, and HippoNation.org
Changes to after-school sports and club schedules will come from your coach or sponsor through their normal communication channels.

As always during rainy weather, avoid driving or walking through water-covered roads, and remind students who walk, bike, or drive to school to do the same.

This page provides important information about school-related safety incidents, health concerns and other timely issues affecting Hutto ISD. Updates posted here supplement emergency communication sent directly to families and staff.

Emergency Preparedness
Standard Response Protocol
Hutto ISD uses the Standard Response Protocol to provide students, staff, families and first responders with a shared language during emergency situations.
Five Actions. One Common Language.
Staff members are trained in the protocol, and students and staff participate in regular drills.
SRP provides a common language for both schools and local law enforcement agencies. When families understand Hutto ISD’s Safety Response Protocols, it helps the District better prioritize student safety in the event of a crisis.

Response Safety Protocols
Select each response below to learn what it means and how students and staff are expected to respond.
HOLD In your room or area
During a Hold, students will remain in the classroom, and classroom doors will remain locked. Inside the classroom, it will be business as usual.
A Hold could be used during a medical situation so halls can be cleared in case outside medical assistance is required. An altercation in the hallway may also require keeping students out of the halls until it is resolved.
Students who are not in a classroom may be directed to an area where they can be supervised and remain safe.
SECURE Get inside. Lock outside doors.
Secure is called when there is a threat or hazard outside of the school building. Students and staff are brought into the building, and outside doors are locked. Inside, business continues as usual.
This could include a police situation in the area, such as a warrant being served or a police chase in the immediate neighborhood, or a dangerous animal on the playground.
Secure vs. Hold
During a Hold, the halls are cleared, students remain in their classrooms with their teachers and business continues as usual. If people are outside, they remain outside.
During a Secure, people are brought inside and no one moves in or out of the building. The halls remain open and may be used by students and staff as needed.
The main difference is that a Secure is enacted when a threat or hazard is outside of the school. A Hold is used when there is a need for the halls to remain empty because the issue is inside the building.
LOCKDOWN Locks, lights, out of sight
A Lockdown is called when there is a threat or hazard inside of the building. Students and staff are trained to enter or remain in a room that can be locked and maintain silence.
A Lockdown is initiated when there is an active threat inside or very close to the building. Situations could include parental custody disputes, intruders or an active assailant.
The Lockdown Action includes locking interior doors, moving occupants out of the line of sight of corridor windows, turning off lights and maintaining silence.
If students are unable to get behind a locked door, they are trained to self-evacuate. If your child contacts you to let you know they safely self-evacuated, please contact the District Emergency Number at 512-759-2059 to notify Hutto ISD that your child is safe.
EVACUATE To a location
Evacuate is called when there is a need to move people from one location to another for safety reasons.
An on-site evacuation is usually conducted because of a mechanical failure that would disrupt the school day, such as a power outage or water disruption. If the issue cannot be resolved quickly, the school may need to plan for early dismissal.
An off-site evacuation may be necessary when it is no longer safe to remain in the building, such as during a gas leak or bomb threat.
If there has been a violent event at the school, an off-site evacuation will almost always be necessary because the school may be considered a crime scene. Students and staff may or may not be able to bring personal items with them.
Reunification After an Evacuation
When students and staff are evacuated off-site, they may walk or be transported to another location where an organized reunification of students and parents or guardians will take place.

SHELTER State the hazard and safety strategy
Shelter is called when specific protective actions are needed based on a threat or hazard.
Hazards May Include
- Tornado
- Severe weather
- Wildfires
- Flooding
- Hazardous material spill or release
- Earthquake
Safety Strategies May Include
- Evacuate to a shelter area
- Seal the room
- Drop, cover and hold
- Get to high ground
Important: Any of the emergency responses above could result in delays to the normal campus drop-off or release schedule. Hutto ISD will provide updates to families regarding schedule changes and drop-off or pick-up locations in the Incident Updates section of this page.
After an Emergency
Student Reunification
Because conditions can change quickly during an emergency, Hutto ISD cannot identify in advance where families should report after an incident.
As soon as it is safe, the District will communicate the reunification location, what parents or guardians need to bring, where to report and any other information needed to reunite students with their families as quickly and safely as possible.
Please follow all instructions from law enforcement and District officials during the reunification process.

Be Prepared Before an Emergency
Knowing how to report concerns and receive District alerts helps Hutto ISD communicate more effectively during an emergency.
Anonymous Alerts
Anonymous Alerts helps students and families report bullying and other safety concerns directly to school officials.
Reports may include bullying, cyberbullying, depression, dating violence, drug or alcohol use, threats against the school, weapons on campus and other safety concerns.

Keep Your Contact Information Current
In the event of an emergency, it is crucial that your contact information is current so you receive pertinent and timely updates from Hutto ISD.
Families should review their information and notification settings in District systems such as Skyward and ParentSquare.
Notification SettingsParentSquare Notifications
Parents and guardians are automatically given accounts in the ParentSquare communication system to receive text, email and voice messages.
Unsubscribing
Selecting “Unsubscribe” from an email notification may allow a user to stop notifications, which turns email, text and app notification preferences off and may also turn School Alerts off.
Stopping Texts
Texting “STOP” opts the phone number out of future text messages regardless of the preferences selected under Notification Settings.
Urgent Smart Alerts
Urgent Smart Alerts cannot be turned off through the user’s regular ParentSquare Notification Settings.
Important: Review your contact information and notification preferences before an emergency occurs so Hutto ISD can reach you as quickly as possible.
Emergency School Closing Information
The District may close schools because of bad weather or emergency conditions. When such conditions exist, the superintendent will make the official decision concerning the closing of District facilities.
When it becomes necessary to open late or release students early, local radio and television stations may also be notified by school officials.
Hutto ISD will also communicate directly with families and update official District communication channels and HippoNation.org when school operations are affected by severe weather or emergency conditions.
