There’s no question Hutto and Hippo Nation are growing. And as a result of that growth, more students are attending Hutto ISD’s schools now than at any time in our local public school system’s history.
Thanks to the District’s voters, Hutto ISD was given approval during the May 2023 Bond election to finance the design and construction of its eighth Elementary School, as well as a ninth Elementary campus as part of the $522 million bond package.
Lee Martinez Elementary School will be the first project to be constructed among the voter-approved capital projects which will provide enrollment relief in the north-central portion of the District, primarily Hutto Elementary and Cottonwood Creek Elementary, both of which have exceeded their functional capacity in recent years and months.
Designed by LPA Architects with input from current elementary students, parents, community members and District staff, Lee Martinez Elementary School will serve 800 students in Pre-K through 5th grades. In addition to the core educational spaces, District leaders with the backing of Hutto ISD’s Board of Trustees, will include a Little Hippos Daycare Center as part of the overall campus project to provide early childhood learning opportunities for more than 100 enrollees.
Lee Martinez Elementary School, slated to open to students and staff in Fall 2025, will be constructed on approximately 20 acres within District-owned property located along Destiny Lane and FM 1660 North, and adjacent to the Hutto 9th Grade Center. This property has been master planned to include the addition of Hutto ISD’s eighth Elementary School as well as the build-out of the NGC to become Hutto High School #2—a project that is currently under design as authorized by voters in the 2023 Bond program. In addition, the District’s masterplan for this parcel of land includes a possible site for a future Middle School and Performing Arts Center.
When completed, Lee Martinez Elementary School will be a campus where Hippo Nation’s youngest learners thrive! Design features and highlights include general learning areas with collaboration neighborhoods; exterior playscapes and learning courtyards to allow for extracurricular and outdoor learning activities; a centralized library with learning commons; and a combined gymnasium and multipurpose cafetorium.
Working with District leadership and committee members helping to guide the process, the District’s architectural partners have planned a new Elementary School that is traditional yet transformational; inclusively designed for all learners and abilities; resourceful in its space utilization, but flexible to provide multi-use areas; and a campus that is aligned with Hutto ISD’s vision and mission. In addition, Lee Martinez Elementary School will align to the recently adopted educational specifications and safety and security standard
