New Era, New Energy

Walrven takes the helm

Coach Walraven

Hippo Nation is charging into a new chapter of Hutto football with the hiring of Casey Walraven as Head Varsity Football Coach and Boys Athletic Coordinator.

When Athletic Director Will Compton began evaluating the landscape of Texas high school football, one name consistently rose to the top.

And the numbers tell a powerful story.

At Alvarado ISD, Coach Walraven led back-to-back district championships and back-to-back state quarterfinal appearances, finishing the season ranked No. 5 in the state two years in a row. His 2025 offense averaged 62.4 points per game, ranking No. 1 in the nation and No. 2 all-time in Texas high school football history. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football recognized his program with the Davies Award for Best Offense across all classifications.

“As a coach, you are always tracking who are the hot teams and coaches,” Compton
said. “You look at whose teams are putting up crazy stats. Coach Walraven leading the
nation in scoring is one of those that pops out to me. After talking to coaches, Coach
Walraven is extremely respected not only for what his teams do on the field but the
type of man and coach that he is. Our football program saw growth in the 2025 season.
I look for much of the same in the 2026 season under Coach Walraven’s leadership.”

But for Coach Walraven, success runs deeper than statistics. Coach Walraven describes building programs that focus on relationships, excellence and belief in a shared vision. He says his staff has consistently built cultures that are innovative, development-focused and unafraid to think outside the box. “We do things today that others won’t, so we can become what others cannot,” Walraven shared.

Across his career, he has facilitated the rebuilding of three football programs and helped more than 100 student-athletes earn collegiate scholarships. His philosophy emphasizes mental and physical development, leadership in the school and community and a vertically aligned K–12 athletic culture that grows athletes into men of character.

From Grandview to Cleburne to Alvarado, Coach Walraven has built cultures that outlast seasons. At Cleburne, he led the first three consecutive non-losing seasons. At Alvarado, he doubled the win total in his first season and steadily improved both scoring offense and defense each year since 2022.

Beyond Friday night lights, Coach Walraven has championed community initiatives such as elementary and middle school mentorship programs, literacy engagement, women’s appreciation events and service projects that strengthen school spirit and family involvement. He is committed to developing assistant coaches into head coaches and athletes into leaders.

Hutto’s football program saw growth last season. With Coach Walraven’s experience, energy and proven track record, the future looks bright and bold.

  • A high-powered offense.
  • An attacking defense.
  • A culture built on relationships and excellence.

Hippo Nation, get ready. The next era of Hutto football has begun.
