Examination for Acceleration

Hutto ISD offers examination for acceleration opportunities for eligible students to earn credit or accelerate a grade level when appropriate.

About Examination for Acceleration

Examination for acceleration allows a student to accelerate and earn credit for a course or grade level without formal instruction in that course or grade level. Secondary students may earn credit in academic subjects, and elementary students may accelerate a grade level by passing the appropriate exams.

K–5Elementary AccelerationExams are offered for all elementary grades K–5.
6–12Secondary CreditMost TEKS-based courses in grades 6–12 are eligible for credit by exam.
ScoreMinimum ScoreStudents must score at least 80% on required exams to receive credit through acceleration.
Elementary requirement: Elementary students must earn 80% on each grade-level exam in language arts, math, science and social studies in order to accelerate.

Testing Windows & Registration Deadlines

All registration forms must be returned to the campus counselor’s office by 4:00 p.m. on the registration deadline.

How to Register

Any Hutto ISD student currently enrolled in grades K–12 is eligible to participate in testing without charge during the regularly scheduled administration, with teacher recommendation and principal approval. Families should pick up a registration form from the campus counselor’s office or use the parent how-to guide.
