Ms. Laura Sidles
I began following my childhood dreams of being a teacher in 2011 when I began to substitute at Eastside Memorial High School. As a substitute teacher, I was able to pick and choose specific campuses, subjects, and students that I wanted to work with. I fell in love with the culture and students at EMHS. The school at the time had a long history of teacher turnover and instability. It was because of this that I chose to commit myself to that campus. I wanted to be a point of stability for students who needed it.
Soon, I became a Teacher’s Assistant for the credit recovery program at EMHS. This assignment is what solidified my passion for education. Being able to build positive relationships with students by implementing social and emotional practices allowed me to understand my students’ individual educational journeys. Their stories opened my eyes to what all students needed in an educator so that they are successful not just in the classroom, but in life beyond the classroom.
Since then, I have taught at Manor Middle School as an 8th Grade ELAR teacher and department chair focusing on student goal setting and academic growth by blending technology, project-based learning, and developing highly engaging lessons to ensure students are academically growing in the way they learn best. All while establishing a love of reading.
As a member of the Hutto community, I am thrilled to be joining the new NGC as the Instructional Coach. I live by the phrase, “when we learn, we grow”. In this new position, I have the opportunity to use my past experiences while working collaboratively alongside an amazing administrative team, a group of educators, and all stakeholders to positively foster a love of learning and growth for all students.
