Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Angel Walter
When I think of my earliest musical experiences, memories filled with love flood my mind: my father chanting “Boom-da, Boom-da, Boom-da, Sarasponda…” in the old farm truck on the way to the bus stop, my mother singing spirituals in the car, and Uncle Danny belting out funny campfire songs. I think of family dance parties to my mom’s worn 45’s, and singing my first solo, Jesus Loves Me, at the front of our small church with my mom accompanying me on the piano.
Music has brought me great joy, comfort, and meaning throughout my life. I sang often with my family growing up and took piano lessons with my sisters in elementary school. I played percussion with the school band throughout middle school and high school, including the concert band, jazz band, pep band, and my favorite, marching band. I sang in every choir and musical I could in high school. In college, I continued singing in musical theater, Chamber Choir, and an all girls choir, Coro d’ Angeli.
I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with minors in music and early childhood. For four years, I taught elementary general music, preschool through fifth grade, in a public elementary school in Kenosha, Wisconsin. During this time, I earned a master’s degree in music education at VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois. I taught four more years at the elementary level, before becoming a mom and moving to Austin.
It is an exceptional privilege to teach alongside the awesome staff at Hutto Elementary School. What a joy to merge my love of music with my passion for elementary education! I can think of no better job than making music with the Hutto Hippos.
