Hello!  I am Shelby Parker and I teach first grade here at Howard Norman Elementary.  I grew up in Belton and went on to study EC-6 Education and music at the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor.  I am certified in EC-6 Education and English as a Second Language.  I recently moved to Hutto in July after I married my best friend and college sweetheart, who is from the Austin area.  We do not have any kids yet, but we do have a dog named Maya.  I have aspired to become a teacher ever since I was in elementary school, so this truly is my calling and my passion.  My first two and a half years of experience were in an enrichment program called ACE, where I worked with Kindergarten through second grade students.  After I graduated, I worked in Belton as a third grade math and science teacher for bilingual and monolingual students.  I came to Howard Norman Elementary in 2019 and enjoyed my year of teaching fourth-grade math. 

My goal is to instill a love of learning in my students and help them grow significantly on their journey to becoming competent, successful citizens of the world.  I plan to create an environment of respect, responsibility and fun in my classroom so that students look back fondly at the school year, knowing that every minute was worthwhile.  Thank you for the privilege of working with your students and I wish you a wonderful year.
