My name is Mr. Alex Healy and I will be the Orchestra Director and teacher this school year. Because I am the only orchestra teacher for the district, I have the potential privilege of being your child’s orchestra teacher for the next seven years, I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a few things about myself, both personally and professionally.
Originally I am from the Cleveland, OH area. This will be my fourth year as an orchestra director; prior I had subbed and student taught at Cuyahoga Heights Schools and then taught 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade orchestra at Claggett Middle School, both in Ohio. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Baldwin Wallace University. Aside from being a teacher, I strive to continue my education on my primary instrument, violin. I currently reside in Jonestown with the plans to move out this way.
My passion for teaching music stems from a basic philosophy that I abide by in my planning and execution of classroom string instruction. My goal is to develop each child into independent musicians that can work together as a group. Not only do I expect students to come to class prepared, but myself as well in order for us to work as a team with specific goals in mind. I believe this philosophy translates across the musical boundary into all facets of a budding child’s life and is a key principle for them to be successful.
Every child in my classroom will receive mutual respect we all deserve. For me, teaching children isn’t only about developing their musical abilities, but developing them as a person. I hold myself accountable, just as I will hold your son or daughter accountable, and we will work and learn together as a team.
I am excited to begin this year’s adventure with your child, and let’s have a fantastic year here in Hippo Nation!
