Hi Kerley Elementary Family,

My name is Carla Salazar, and I’m super ecstatic to serve as your school counselor.  I’ve been a part of the Hutto community for ten years. I’ve been a teacher at Hutto Elementary and Cottonwood Creek Elementary for five years.  As a teacher, I was a part of the Hippo Way team from its beginning and have a heart for students to treat each other with kindness. I have been the counselor at Veterans’ Hill Elementary for the last year and have loved every minute of building the students up and serving the school community.  I received my bachelor’s degree in Applied Learning and Development from the University of Texas at Austin, Go Horns! I am a huge Longhorn sports fan, especially Longhorn Football! Hook’em! I attended Angelo State University and received my masters in Guidance and Counseling.

I love coffee, mascara, Longhorn Football, being a Kids' Pastor at my church, running, and spending time with my friends and family.  I’ve been married for 15 years to the best husband in the world, Rick. We have three hipporiffic kids named Caleb (14), Claudia (12), & Eden (10).

I believe that we are all here for a purpose and that each child has a special place in our school community.  As their counselor, I hope to build our students up and help them exceed their potential, get them excited about school, support them through expected and unexpected life events, and to not just be there for them but to show up and advocate for them.  I am so excited to be a part of opening up Benjamin “Doc” Kerley Elementary and honestly believe that I’m a part of this school family for such a time as this.
