Farley Middle School Band: Together, We Shine!
The Farley Middle School Band Program is one of the finest in Central Texas. The FMS Band program is a consistent UIL Concert & Sightreading Sweepstakes award winner, top award winner at Jazz Festivals, and its students are well represented in the TMEA Region 26 All-Region Band. The FMS Band is the largest student organization on campus with a diverse population of over 340 students.
Students in 6th grade are in homogenous classes where they can learn flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion. Beginner band students will have a Winter Concert in December, participate in a Solo Contest in April, and a Spring Concert in May. We also have a "Select Band" in the spring semester that is comprised of the finest beginning band students. This ensemble is designed to offer a more challenging curriculum and give students an opportunity of what band is like in 7th and 8th grade. They will perform at the 7th and 8th grade Spring Band Concert.
Incoming band students to Farley will be tested by the band directors in the early part of the spring semester. If you have any questions about joining band, email one of our directors below or visit the link "How do I join the FMS Band?".
7th and 8th grade students are in ability-based ensembles. They are: Wind Ensemble (varsity group), Symphonic Winds (non-varsity group), and Concert Band (sub-non varsity group). These bands are created through an audition process held at the end of the school year. FMS also has an award winning Jazz program. Members are selected through an audition process as well.
Performances in 7th and 8th grade include, pep rallies (Wind Ensemble only), Fall Concert, Veteran's Day Assembly (Wind Ensemble Only), Winter Concert, Elementary tours (Jazz Band), UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest, Region Band auditions, Hutto ISD Solo Contest, Spring Concert, Temple College Jazz Festival, and Georgetown Jazz Festival. The band also performs at several community events such as school board meetings, Hutto Christmas Fair, and Hippo Days.
The FMS Band also participates in two fundraisers a year. These fundraisers help pay for the costs of running a competitive band program and to offset the cost of our annual Spring Trip in May.
The directors are passionate about their students and hope to instill character traits they will take with them the rest of their lives. We hope to have your child as a part of our wonderful band family!
