Hello...I am John Garvey, Fifth Grade Dual Language Teacher.   I have nineteen years of experience teaching in Texas public schools in Houston, Austin, Manor, and Hutto.  This is my sixth year teaching at Veterans' Hill Elementary School. Thank you for your trust in me and the opportunity to make the experience of your child's last year of elementary school memorable and meaningful.

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from the University of Houston where I also studied linguistics and bilingual education.  I also speak French and Portuguese. I was certified to teach in Texas public schools in 1986. I received my Master's Degree and Administrative Certification from Concordia University in 2013.  From 1990 to 2007 I headed up several human services and workforce development projects in Houston, Austin, and Washington D.C.  I returned to public education in 2007. 

I look forward to a successful year.  This year I will teach Math and Social Studies to all of the students in the Dual Language program.

Hola ... Soy John Garvey, maestro de lenguaje dual de quinto grado. Tengo diecinueve años de experiencia de enseñar en las escuelas públicas Tejanas de Houston, Austin, Manor y Hutto. Este es mi sexto año en la Escuela Primaria Veterans' Hill. Gracias por su confianza en mí y la oportunidad de hacer que la experiencia del último año de la escuela primaria de su hijo sea memorable y significativa.

Recibí mi licenciatura en español de la Universidad de Houston, donde también estudié lingüística y educación bilingüe. Hablo también francés y portugués.  Recibí la certificación para enseñar en escuelas públicas de Texas en 1986. Obtuvo la Maestría y Certificación Administrativa de la Universidad de Concordia en 2013. De 1990 a 2007 dirigí varios proyectos de servicios humanos y desarrollo de la fuerza laboral en Houston, Austin y Washington DC. Regresé a la educación pública en 2007.

Espero un año escolar exitoso con mis alumnos  aún durante este época inusual. Enseñaré Matemáticas y Artes del Lenguaje en Inglés a todos los estudiantes en el programa de Lenguaje Dual, y seré responsable de Estudios Sociales para mis estudiantes del Bloque I.
