March 2021

Thank you Hutto Education Foundation for your continued support of grants written to help our 504 and Sp. Ed. students with Dyslexia. Approving the C-pen & Lingo Team Up Grant at NJE could not have come at a better time during such a challenging period for our children. My students enjoy having the option to use a C-pen for text to speech, speech to text as needed for books and other printed materials that are not online. This includes printed materials from language arts, science, social studies and math. The new Lingo Pen is also available to some of our English Language Learners.

I hope all is well with you and your family. Students have worked hard since school returned.

At home learners will continue to join into class through Google Classroom with in person classmates at the same time this semester. Students should continue to log in at their class time through their grade level class link provided.

At home learners access learning through district recommended Google Classroom tools. Our Wilson program is now online with interactive features and we will use this tool more in the coming days.

Lexia Core 5 and Learning Ally continue to be our district supplemental programs. These programs are accessible to students at any time for additional reading support, at home or at school.

Previous News...

Welcome Back to School. Students should continue to review announcements and updates in the Google Classroom.

Students have done a great job coming to class virtually the last few weeks. See you beginning Sept. 14 if you are returning in person. If not, we will see you from the classroom on your chromebook !

Our Learning Ally Summer Book Club was a success ! Several students read 30 pages or more June 1- 30th and received a "Summer Book Club" certificate. During the year, you can continue using at home reading programs to supplement our class learning.

About Teacher: **********************************************************************************************

I am pleased to work with your child. This is my 26th year as a certified teacher in Texas, primarily the areas of Dyslexia, Reading and Intervention. This is my 7th yr. at NJE as the Dyslexia Teacher. I also provide evaluation of students referred who may enter the program. Other campuses previously served in Hutto are Howard Norman and Veterans' Hill Elem. I have enjoyed coaching Spelling, Chess and Oral Reading UIL.

When not at school, I enjoy gardening, collecting, reading and traveling with family. I grew up in the northeast where education and the arts were very important in my family. I later moved with my family to Texas. I am married and have 2  wonderful sons.

For additional studies to learn about the strengths, gifts and challenges of children with Dyslexia, I completed the educational diagnostician program at Midwestern State University, TX. I am also a member of the Academic Language Therapist Association (ALTA), Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP), and Wilson Certified Teacher (WDP).

Students in our district use Wilson Reading an evidence-based program, with access to supplemental programs Lexia & Learning Ally. Students in the NJE program use Google Read & Write and the C- pen, a human-voiced reading "smart assistive technology". C-pens were provided through grants submitted to Hutto Education Foundation (2018, 2019, 2020).
