Degrees and Certifications:
EC-6 Generalist and ESL 4-8 ELAR
Ms. Becky Sigler
I was born and raised in New Braunfels, Texas and attended Texas State University in San Marcos, where I obtained my teaching degree. I have now been teaching in Hutto for the last eight years, this being my fifth year teaching 5th grade English Language Arts and Reading and Social Studies. I am so grateful to have landed in Hutto ISD. I could not imagine a better district and community to work for and in!
I have one son and three kitties. When I'm not teaching, I like taking naps, reading, watching Netflix, and filling up my Amazon shopping cart!
Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns throughout the year. The best way to reach me is through Class Dojo or by email, email@example.com. Always check Class Dojo for important updates or homework assignments.
I sincerely cannot wait to be back in the classroom with all my kiddos! I do hope you are able to take advantage of the social distancing by spending time learning and creating things together as a family.
What we're up to right now:
Welcome to Distance Learning! We are finishing up our unit on The Great Depression and World War I and will be moving on to Roosevelt's New Deal, World War II, and the changes these events brought to our country. We will have a reading skill focus on cause and effect, as well as other features of expository text.
Be on the lookout for assignments to be posted weekly on Mondays, with a due date the following Sunday night at 11:59 PM.
Fifth Grade office hours are 10:00 am on Mondays and 4:00 pm on Wednesdays. If you'd like to take advantage of these hours, you can request a Google Hangouts code from any of the four fifth grade teachers, or you can schedule a different time with us if needed.
If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, or message me on Dojo. If at anytime you have techonolgy needs at home, I will be happy to find help!

How you can help at home:
Ask your student to show you some of their work or their writing. Writing journals can be taken home, but MUST be returned the next day. Most students receive a goal for the week, something we work on in small group sessions. Ask your child if they have a goal this week, and let them show you how they're working to master it! Read with your child as well. Reading to and with your child is an important part of their education, even as they grow older.
Students must read 30 minutes a night. This can be any reading. Magazines, comic books, online articles, reading to a sibling... they all count! We do have Boss Time at the end of the day. Students can use this as a study hall for homework, or they may use this time to get help on any concept or assignment from either teacher.
