Howdy! My name is Jessica Gola, and I have been teaching for 13 years, all here in Hutto. I have taught grades 1st - 5th. Currently, I live in Taylor, but I am originally from Waco. I graduated from Texas A&M University in 2003, Whoop!!! My husband also graduated from Texas A&M, and he farms and ranches. I have two children. My daughter, Astin, will be four in January, and my son, Garrett, turned two this past summer. I consider my dog, Mattie, my third child :o).
Math - In Unit 1 Foundations of Numbers, we began the year with place value. In second grade, the students had learned place value up to the thousands place (4 digit numbers). In third grade, we work with numbers up to 100,000. We have learned all about representing numbers in standard form, with base-ten blocks, in pictorial form, word form, expanded form, and expanded notation. We also used place value to compare and order numbers. Now, we are moving on to Unit 2 Addition and Subtraction, where we will be rounding numbers and adding and subtracting numbers with/without regrouping (carrying/borrowing).
Science - We have discussed basic science tools, different kinds of scientists, and science safety. Now in Unit 1 Investigating Properties of Matter, we are learning all about classifying matter based on physical properties such as: states of matter-solid, liquid, and gas; whether matter is magnetic or non-magnetic; does an object sink or float; temperature; mass; and density. We will explore what a mixture is and different types of mixtures. We will also investigate how matter can change states.
