Mrs. Shaniea Pennygraph-Compaore
My name is Shaniea Pennygraph-Compare. I am so excited to be teaching 4th grade at Howard Norman this year. We have a fun-filled year ahead of us and I cannot wait to watch my students become independent and innovative thinkers. This is an important year in your student's life and we will learn and grow together as a family. I am a firm believer that in our classroom we are a family. We have core family values that we build together and hold each other accountable for.
I am a native Houstonian. I am an only child but I do have three cousins that I grew up with and we are very close. We often refer to each other as "sister-cousins". My family is very important to me. My husband, Dominique, and I have 10-year-old twins. Everything is better when it comes in twos. Our twins keep us busy, laughing and on our toes. There is never a dull moment but I would not change it for the world. When I am not working, I enjoy shopping, couponing, trying new things, or simply watching movies.
There comes a time in everyone's life when we must accept what we are destined to be. I grew up surrounded by men and women that dedicated long hours to the field of education, rather it was principals, teachers, aides, and/or secretaries. I spent countless summers assisting my aunt put her room together and watching my uncle prepare summer excursions for his students during the summer.
I completed my undergraduate studies at Dillard University in New Orleans, LA. There I received my Bachelors of Arts in Psychology. Upon graduating I worked as a Mental Health Technician. Shortly after I began investigating child abuse and neglect. After 5 years, I finally stopped running from my calling and got my Masters in Educational Counseling from Prairie View A&M. During this time I also became a certified teacher.
This year marks my 10th year of teaching. I began teaching in Cypress-Fairbanks in Houston, TX. There I taught for 4 years. I taught 4th-grade reading, writing, and science. Then I taught 1st grade for one year and went on to become a Reading Interventionist. My family and I moved to Hutto in 2013. I soon accepted a position at Nadine Johnson, where I taught 4th and 5th grade ELA. Currently, I teach 4th grade ELA at Howard Norman.
