Mr. Stacy Gist
I want to welcome you to the Hutto High School Band, the home of the Hippos, and tell you a little about myself. I am the Head Director of the High School Band and have been teaching band for 31 years. I grew up in Clarksville, Texas and attended college at The University of Texas where I received my Bachelors of Music in Education degree. While at the University of Texas, I was a five year member of the percussion section in the Longhorn Band. I am married to Stacey Gist. Yes, her name is also Stacey. We have three boys, Seth, Scott, and Stone and three dogs, Sadie, Sparky, and Remi. I received my Masters degree in Music Education from Texas A&M University in Commerce, Texas - "No, I'm not an Aggie, I am a Longhorn", I have been the band director in Hutto for the last thirteen years. I have had the incredible opportunity to be a part of the high school band growing from 72 members to 250 members during those thirteen years. When I'm not teaching band, I love to spend time with my family and freshwater and saltwater fish.
At Hutto High School I teach the Wind Ensemble, the Concert Band, and co-teach the Marching Band and the Virtual Online Band. I also assist the other directors with their bands.
To contact me you can email me at stacy.gist@huttoisd.net, or call the bandhall phone (512) 759-4720.

Technology Expectations: You will use Google Classroom and Smart Music to complete most assignments.
Virtual Grading Policy: Students will be required to submit virtual audio/video recordings of music assignments. Refer back to the band handbook grading policy for daily and weekly grades. The same grading policy listed in the handbook will apply to both in-person and virtual learners. I will also communicate which days will be synchronous and asynchronous. On synchronous days, you must be present in the google meet with the rest of the class. On asynchronous days, you must log in to complete the attendance assignment.
Attendance Policy - (Synchronous and Asynchronous): Students are required to attend class virtually every day. A student who does not log in and complete work by 4 p.m. will be counted absent that day. Repeated absences will result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to loss of credits, makeup hours and truancy court. Students are expected to be online every day.
