The District Advisory Committee, formed of representatives from each campus and community members, narrowed down the calendars to two-three drafts. Committee members take calendars to their respective campuses and receive feedback. The draft calendars are also presented to principals and the instructional specialist. Feedback from these sources are then condensed into one draft calendar.
When drafting Instructional Calendars, considerations are given to: start/end dates, federal holidays, state testing dates, days in each semester, professional development dates, early dismissal dates, bad weather make up days, the surrounding district calendars, spring break, and summer school.
All public schools are mandated by the Texas Education Agency to begin school the 4th Monday in August unless they are a designated District of Innovation, which allows flexibility in start dates.
In 2016, Hutto ISD was approved as a District of Innovation, which allows the district to start earlier than the 4th Monday in August.
