•  Course Description:

    This course provides reading and literary skills to emphasize focus on critical, analytical thinking. Thematic units are designed to provide students with a deeper look at specific topics through various genres and types of literature. A focus on the study of grammar and techniques of writing is emphasized to gain key composition skills to support skills necessary in producing quality composition. Close reading skills are sharpened through the use of annotations and text-dependent questions for each in class reading selection, as well as independent reading practices throughout the year.  Research skills will be developed through the planning and composition of embedded assessment essays that demonstrate understanding of key concepts in each unit.
