Last week, 12 Hutto Middle School FCCLA members competed in Dallas at the State Leadership Conference. They spent the week attending leadership sessions and competing in STAR Events against students from across the state. The competition was high, and every HMS student worked hard!
The team of Abigayle Fritz, Laci Hebel, and Mya Sadler received FIRST PLACE honors in their event, Chapter Service Project Display. They presented a project communicating the planning process and implementation of their recent Sole Hope Community Service Event, which is aimed at making shoes out of blue jeans for children in Uganda suffering from a foot disease know as Jiggers.
For their first place finish, they students each received a $4,000 scholarship to Texas Tech University and will be advance to the National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee this summer!
The students and their project was recently featured on local CBS station KEYE's "Cool in School" with Chris Saldana. You can watch that segment here:http://keyetv.com/news/local/cool-at-school-hutto-middle-school-helping-kids-get-shoes
Congratulations to these students and their teacher, Kaila Coolidge, for representing Hippo Nation!
